Stress Reduction
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) focuses on restoring a balanced sense of health and well-being through increased awareness, nonjudgmental attention and focusing on the here and now.
“What is Mindfulness?”
The practice of mindfulness is about being fully present in the now — awake to the moment, each moment, in our lives. When living with unpredictability such as life with MS, it is easy to dwell in the past, in what could have been, or what was, and spend time & energy worrying about the future and the what if’s. In doing so, we miss out on the NOW’s, the moments, in each breath…
Mindfulness is about being in the present moment which means embracing awareness with all its implications and complications without judgment about what is. Without judgment includes nurturing gentleness and loving kindness towards ourselves with all we are in each moment, with each breath. Meditation and loving kindness isn’t about changing who we are, it’s about befriending who we are.
Wendy has adapted and piloted MBSR specifically for people with adult onset neurological disorders and their family members. The courses were based on the work and training of Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Through meditation, poetry, discussions and activities, participants practice strategies for managing and tolerating stress, the unpredictability of life and life changes.
Wendy is available to present in a variety of formats Including:
- Introduction to mindfulness class
- Time limited weekly classes
- Individual instruction
- Mindfulness in the workplace seminars
Presentations and courses are adapted to the needs and abilities of the participants. For more information or to schedule a course contact Wendy by e-mail.
